The purpose of an emissions test is to measure the number of pollutants emitted from the engine of your vehicle during normal operation. Safety testing is a general inspection of your vehicle to ensure that it has the structural integrity to travel reasonably safely at highway speeds. Safety & Emissions Testing is a standardized test used by the department of transportation for the purpose of declaring licensed vehicles safe to operate on public roads. Today, emissions and safety tests are done in 32 states.
